Protein shakes can quickly taste boring and bland, especially if you keep going back to your favorite flavors or the classics vanilla and chocolate. If you try a new flavor, it can happen that you catch a protein powder that you don't really like. Since many of us have probably already experienced this, we have put together a few tips here on how the taste of protein shakes can be improved or optimized and how you can achieve more variety:

1. Protein shake Preparation with water or milk

The liquid you use to prepare your protein shake depends on the one hand on the taste you expect and on the other hand on how many carbohydrates you want to accept. If I prepare my protein shake with milk, a shake with 300ml whole milk (1% fat) contains about 15g carbohydrates (5g of which is sugar). This is not a problem if I don't want to drink the protein shake for weight loss alone. Many protein shakes are so-called low carb shakes, as long as they are prepared with water and are then also suitable as protein shakes for weight loss. If I want to gain weight during training, it is certainly not wrong to prepare the protein shake with milk. In terms of taste, the milk-made shake usually tastes better (a great exception: ours Multipower 100% Whey Protein which also tastes excellent when prepared with water). That is why many people use reduced-fat milk for mixing, although I'm more likely to be here for a shake made with water.

2. Cold water or cold milk for the protein shake - the right temperature

When preparing it, I always make sure that the water from the tap is very, very cold. Should I ever use milk for my shake, I take it straight from the fridge to get a cold shake here too. In the summer, an iced protein shake is absolutely awesome - just add a few ice cubes to your finished protein shake and enjoy the shake as a great refreshing drink after training!

3. Fresh preparation of the protein shake

Nothing beats a freshly prepared protein shake - you can clearly taste the difference to a shake mixed an hour ago (above all, it is not that creamy). If the shake is drunk on the go or directly after training in the studio, this is recommended BlenderBottle ProStak. The high-quality shaker contains attachable containers in which the protein powder can be stored. The preparation is therefore super easy on the go and the bottle can still be used as a water bottle during training. The included BlenderBall works like a whisk and makes the shake super creamy!

4. Preparation according to the instructions

For many, the consistency of protein shakes is what they don't like about this fitness drink. For some it is simply too thick and therefore difficult to drink. But the solution is so simple: If you add more liquid to the powder, the consistency becomes thinner or you simply use less protein powder (but of course enough to cover the increased daily protein requirement after training). Here I see the preparation instructions for the protein shakes as a guide rather than a strict requirement. Tastes are different and so you should prepare the shake according to your own needs.

5. Protein shake with spices to my taste

Would you like a change from boredom or distraction from the not so overwhelming taste? Different spices give a protein shake that certain something and make it your very own protein shake. Cinnamon, gingerbread spice, basil, coconut butter, real cocoa powder, various flavors or something else that tastes good ... there are no limits to your imagination. Just try!

6. Combine tea or coffee with the protein shake

Especially if you like to drink the shake for breakfast, you can try adding some coffee (here also cold) to the protein shake to adjust the taste. Experience shows that this works very well, but not with all protein flavors either. It is the same with tea - some types of tea complement each other perfectly with the taste of one protein shake, with the other it works less or not at all. Here you can easily taste your way through and develop many new taste creations.

7. Egg white powder for cooking

If a protein powder does not really taste good or if it is getting boring to always drink a shake, the protein powder can also be used for other purposes. In puddings, pancakes, waffles or in semolina porridge. This not only creates variety in terms of taste, but also in consistency. And if you replace the highlight of semolina porridge, the sugared cocoa layer, which you like to sprinkle on it, with a chocolate protein powder, this also has special nutritional advantages.

8. Protein powder in yogurt or smoothies

Since it doesn't always have to be the same protein shake forever, you can also let your imagination run wild here and with less additional effort than in point 6. You can easily add the protein powder to a yogurt (natural or fruit yogurt) or to the Mix morning muesli. But also fruit smoothies and green smoothies can be supplemented with it.

9. Neutral protein powder

If you can't really get used to the different flavors or if you want a protein powder that always and everywhere goes with it, it is best to use protein powder with a neutral taste. This can easily be mixed in anywhere without changing the original taste of the meal or drink. Neutral protein also offers the option of determining the taste yourself by adding it to other additives such as juice, fruit, jam or flavors. There are countless possibilities here too. Unfortunately, there are only a few neutral protein shakes, our lactose-free protein powder Sponser Whey 94 neutral With its high biological value, the very high protein content and its ingredients (only 100% whey protein isolate) it is absolutely one of the best!

10. Find the right protein powder flavor for you

If you generally have little experience with protein shakes and the diverse flavors of the various brands, there are various ways to get to grips with your personal favorite. One possibility is to buy the protein powder in the bag. This usually contains less powder (usually 500g) than the can and is also cheaper - making it ideal for testing.
Another option is to rely on the opinion of others. If you are not sure, just ask us about the most popular flavors of your desired shake, we will be happy to advise you personally!

11. My protein powder doesn't taste good

To summarize again briefly: If I don't like a protein powder, I first try to improve the taste with juices, cinnamon or fruit. If that doesn't work either, I use it to conjure up delicious protein desserts such as pancakes, etc.

Unfortunately, there are no product samples from most manufacturers, except from 100% Pure Whey von Multipower, here we can add samples to your order.

And now off to the kitchen, good luck with your improved protein shake!
